Cloudy, rainy day here in Rhode Island. What better weather for starting work on a long sweater vest out of Malabrigo Mecha, a new bulky yarn from color fave, Malabrigo? It's in the ethereal colorway, Polar Morn a gray with definite lavender undertones.
I like to share my mistakes and to emphasize that we all make them no matter how long we've been knitting. . So, here is the bonehead knitting moment of the year: Three times I swatched and began the right front of this vest. Three times it seemed quite large. I wanted it roomy but this seemed more "House-y" than roomy. I finally turned out the lights, lay there listening for to the pounding rain and foghorn when suddenly it clicked. I was knitting 20 inches for the right front when it should have been 20 inches for the entire front, or 10 inches for the right front, 10 inches for the left front. When I teach people to knit they can be very hard on themselves. I like to point out that I'm still learning and making mistakes, even obvious ones. Perhaps I still hadn't recovered from having my bra snapped in half by the chair that gives massages outside of Macy's. It was a good massage, but really.
