Well, the driving test was interesting in a very tedious way. We showed up, waited 75 hours only to find out that our car has "After market tinting" on the passenger and driver windows which is illegal. They told me to get the tint removed and return the next day. We called around but nobody could fit us in for the $200 tint removal. Husband gets obsessive about stuff like this. Very stressed. He actually kind of started freaking out about it. "Why does everything have to be difficult? What are we going to do? You're going to have to wait another six months to take the test if we don't get this crap off!" I, however, love problems like this. These are the challenges in life that don't really matter and are just begging to be solved creatively. Like the time in New Mexico I bought a $5 antique chandelier and rewired it. There was a slight problem if someone touched the metal bits while changing the bulbs (ZAP) but otherwise it was a fairly successful project.
Seeing him getting more and more upset, I sent him back to work with instructions not to worry, that I'd sort it all out. Really, how hard can removing tint be? Turns out if one spends $25 at Target on a clothes steamer and is very patient, one can just elegantly steam the tint off, kind of like a slow and painful bikini wax. This must be the ultimate form of avoidance regarding bathing suit season - when you do this to your car instead of yourself.
I showed up the next day with clear glass windows and then had the only known Positive Experience associated with the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles. Look, there's even a Facebook site called "Misery at the RI DMV." Anyway, the experience involves Husband getting schooled by my examiner in a public forum (to be continued.) Sadly, the examiner also informed me that pink headlights are illegal.
The top picture is a prelude to my latest Ikea Hack, coming later in the week. The pretty pink sandals belong to a lovely elevator-mate at ABC Carpet and Home - she and her friend were so cute and we chatted about pink shoes, which in case you don't know are rare this season. Trust me, it's very frustrating. Everyone was so, so friendly in NYC this Saturday where rain had been predicted but sunshine prevailed. I snapped the orange tulips at the Union Square farmers market after buying the cutest spring bag in the history of the world. Spending a few delightful hours in the Big Apple just seemed like a very good thing to do, much like giving my station wagon a bikini wax.

Well done! Frankly, whose minivan DOESN'T need a bikini wax?
