This is a bathroom at Rhode Island School of Design. That's the neat thing about having an interest in design: You might not explain to your five year old what that dispenser is (top photo) but you can darned well tell her about Piero Fornasetti (while reminding her to wipe and flush with her foot.) I'm being quite proactive about brightening up our space for the upcoming winter. I made this little shadow box during the presidential debates the other night. I love the process of gluing, cutting, just being present with what I'm doing. It doesn't even matter whether people like it or not, although the little squeal of delight from my daughter did put a smile on my face.
I made this shadow box for my daughter (we're the two little birds) and we decided to put it in the kitchen to brighten it up for winter. Winter in New England can be so dank and depressing but I find if I can start the day in a happy kitchen with a lovely cup of coffee it puts a smile on my face.
The tile on the far left is a piece from my daughter's extensive Bunk Bed Series.
I also made a little shade for the windows - this sort of preventative medicine is so much fun!
Ahhhh, temporary housing, attempts to organize. These white cardboard organizers were just too plain for me. Ten minutes and a bit of glue and oilcloth made this collection much more cheerful (The Economist, natch.) Yeah, RIGHT - Husband.
I am taking an interior design class at Rhode Island School of Design, just to see if I like it. It is kicking my butt - sometimes it's more work than medical school was. Here is one of the boards I did recently. My two tiny canvases above, which you can barely see on the board, were not really appreciated by the professor but the fact that I scented my first proposal (Joe Malone Verbena de Provence) was!
What a difference to be in a place like RISD where creativity is revered instead of ridiculed! I wonder if I can change the crosses on ambulances to pink one day? heh heh.
